Hello, I'm Andy.

A plasterer in Bath who actually cares about the finish.

I've been skimming, plastering and rendering homes and businesses around Bath since 1989. I turn up when I say I will and leave your place clean.

What I can do for you

From a small patch to re-plastering a whole house, for homes and businesses, at a fair price. I use methods to suit any age of property, from Georgian townhouses to new extensions. Free quotes, including for insurance work.

Skimming

A thin finish coat of plaster, usually over plasterboard. After preparing with a strong bonding adhesive, I can also skim old painted walls and Artex, leaving a smooth surface ready to paint.

Plastering

Float and set: a backing coat of bonding, hardwall or render, finished with a smooth skim. Dot and dab is the cheaper option, with plasterboard stuck to the wall with adhesive and then skimmed.

Plasterboarding

All plasterboarding, including re-boarding old ceilings. New boards are screwed up to the existing ceiling and skimmed, so there's no mess from pulling the old one down.

Dry lining

Stud walls, new ceilings and boarded-out rooms, taped and finished ready for decorating.

Patching and repairs

Holes, cracks, blown plaster, fallen ceilings and areas left after electrical or plumbing work, blended in so you can't see the join.

Rendering

Sand and cement render for outside walls, with a waterproof additive to keep moisture out. It can be mixed with a lighter cement to give a Bath stone colour.

K-Rend

A silicone and lime render that comes in a range of colours. It gives house walls and garden walls a grained finish that never needs painting.

Damp-proofing

Tanking vaults and walls with Vandex, and re-plastering with renovating plasters. I learned the trade with a large damp-proofing company, which comes in handy for Bath's cellars and vaults.

My work

Fresh plaster is pink while it dries and turns pale when it's ready to paint. Tap a photo to see it bigger.

Andy Parry of Parry Plastering

A bit about me

My life in plastering started in 1989, when I joined a south west damp-proofing company as a plasterer's mate. Three years later I was a fully qualified plasterer, having done the City & Guilds plastering course on day release at Brunel Technical College. Then I set up on my own as Parry Plastering.

Most of my work comes from recommendations, so keeping customers happy comes first. I give a friendly, reliable service at a fair price, keep disruption to your home or business to a minimum, and leave the place clean, with all the waste taken away.

Andy

What my customers say

Working as a busy health care practitioner from a home consultation room, it's important to me to be able to rely upon other professionals to work in a timely and professional manner. Andy did just that. I needed a wall plastered in a bathroom that was being renovated and discovered one of the walls was not straight enough to tile properly. I phoned Andy and he was round the same day to assess the wall.

When Andy finished the work I commented that had I known he would do such a good job I wouldn't have bothered having the wall tiled – the finish was the best plastering I had seen.

Miss ThomasBradford on Avon

The ceiling in my breakfast room partly fell down so I called several plasterers. Only two came round to see the job and only Andy called and gave me a quote. The job was done in a day – he took the ceiling down and replaced it. The dust was kept to a minimum and the new ceiling looked great. Andy was very professional and I'm happy to recommend him to others.

The finishes on the skimmed walls are immaculate, making the decorators work so much easier. Andy always kept my house tidy and took care when moving my furniture around. Andy arrived when he said he would and finished the project on time. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Andy's work and have personally referred Parry's Plastering to friends and colleagues.

Mr FentonBatheaston

I was extremely pleased with the work carried out for me by Parry's Plastering. The 'before' and 'after' was amazing. What a pleasure to see such wonderfully smooth, woodchip-free walls! I had to instruct Andy while I was away after a ceiling fell in and other contractors had abandoned the job.

Because I wasn't in the flat, I had to rely on Andy for everything and he was great. The work was completed effectively and promptly – no disappearing off to do other work. He was exceptionally pleasant to communicate with, kept me informed, and carried a lot of the responsibility.

The service from start to finish was very professional. Andy provided a cost effective service for damp-proofing our vault in our town house with the minimum of disruption to our household, which was left clean and tidy when he had finished. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Andy to anyone requiring damp-proofing work.

Mrs NewarkSt James's, Bath

Andy was a pleasure to deal with, flexible and creative in helping me resolve issues, and the results were exactly what I wanted. Prices were very fair and I would recommend Parry's Plastering without hesitation.

Questions people ask

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. I'll come and look at the job and give you a free, no-obligation quote, including written quotes for insurance claims.

Can you plaster over Artex?

Yes. After preparing the surface with a strong bonding adhesive, Artex and old painted walls can be skimmed to a smooth finish ready for painting.

Is there a cheaper alternative to a full re-plaster?

Often, yes. Dot and dab fixes plasterboard to the wall with adhesive and is then skimmed. Old ceilings can be re-boarded by screwing new boards over the existing ceiling, which avoids pulling it down.

Do you take on commercial work?

Yes. I work for homeowners, landlords, builders and businesses, from a single patch to a full re-plaster.

Will you clean up afterwards?

Yes. Furniture is moved with care, dust is kept to a minimum and all waste is taken away, so the room is left clean and ready to decorate.

When can I paint new plaster?

Wait until the plaster has dried to an even pale pink with no darker patches. That usually takes several days for a skim and longer for thicker work, depending on the room. Use a mist coat first.

Which areas do you cover?

Bath and the surrounding area, including Bristol, Bradford on Avon, Keynsham, Saltford, Batheaston, Corsham, Peasedown St John, Midsomer Norton and Radstock.
